Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: Three players to keep an eye on

Saturday will be a crucial day for the Baltimore Ravens. Will they resist a narrative that has plagued them for several years, or will they just reinforce it?

In a game that could very well decide the AFC North, the Ravens host the rival Pittsburgh Steelers as they hope to turn the tide in this rivalry. Pittsburgh famously won eight of the last nine games in this series, a fact that obviously doesn’t sit well with Baltimore.

The Ravens have talked all week about how troubling this trend is, but it’s up to them to go out and win the game. With that in mind, here are three players Ravens fans should keep an eye on during Saturday’s game.

In his second season, Flowers has taken a big step toward becoming the top receiver the Ravens have been missing for so long. The former Boston College star has 66 receptions for 916 yards and four touchdowns this year, and with just 84 more yards, he could become Baltimore’s first 1,000-yard receiver since 2021. But he also scored the game-winning touchdown as the Ravens get the wouldn’t have blown the subsequent two-point conversion.

However, the real reason Flowers is here is because the Ravens will likely rely on him even more than they have all season. Nelson Agholor is already out with a concussion, while Rashod Bateman is doubtful to play with a foot injury. The only healthy wideouts on the active roster are Flowers, Tylan Wallace and Devontez Walker (Anthony Miller was called up from the practice squad), so the former will carry the load.

He’s probably here for the same reason as Flowers: The Ravens will likely rely on him as their receiver room struggles with injuries. The third-year pro has been relatively quiet since his incredible game to open the season, and while he has put in some very solid performances, this is a chance for him to assert himself like he did in the first game of the year.

Additionally, Likely likely has a chip on his shoulder heading into this game. In the first meeting he had four balls for 75 yards, his second-highest total of the season, but just before halftime he patrolled deep in his own territory and gave the Steelers a virtual field goal on the break. This play has undoubtedly stuck with him and this time he will try to right the wrongs.

Humphrey delivered arguably the Ravens’ best play in the first meeting, picking off Russell Wilson in the end zone to keep the game down to one point at the start of the fourth quarter. The Ravens couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity, but it was another crucial play in Humphrey’s resurgence this season.

The former All-Pro cornerback has also been extremely vocal about the Ravens’ struggles in this rivalry throughout the week, going so far as to say that it “bothers” him that they have lost eight of the last nine meetings. Humphrey is always playing with fire, but will probably be particularly excited about this game.
