Substitute Ferran Torres scored two goals, including an 85th-minute winner, as Barcelona secured a hard-fought win at Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday to move into qualification.

In a pulsating five-goal second half, Torres scored twice in 10 minutes after arriving in the 71st minute to lift Barcelona to 15 points in second place with two games remaining in the league phase.

Dortmund were twice within a goal when Serhou Guirassy scored both goals, but they failed to do so a third time after Torres’ goal from a Lamine Yamal pass.

The Germans fell to ninth place with 12 points. The eight best teams automatically qualify for the 16th round.

Barcelona were in possession from the start and captain Raphinha and goalscorer Robert Lewandowski had early chances.

The hosts responded with a chance of their own via Marcel Sabitzer, but it was Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel who was busy in a largely one-sided first half, with the visitors enjoying almost 70% possession.

Dortmund looked sharper after the break and Guirassy put the ball in the net in the 50th minute before the effort was ruled out for offside.

There was nothing wrong, however, as RaphiNha latched on to an excellent Dani Olmo pass to finish off a short stride in the 53rd minute and put Barcelona in the driving seat with his sixth goal of the competition.

The hosts were left with Guirassy’s well-formed penalty on the hour after the Guinea international was brought into the box before Dortmund’s Kobel came to the rescue again, stopping another Olmo shot.

He was beaten in the 75th when Torres, who had arrived four minutes earlier, ran onto the rebound after Kobel hit a Frenkie de Jong volley into his path.

Guirassy hit back three minutes later when the Barca defense caught a nap, but it wouldn’t be enough to earn a point as Torres scored again after an excellent ball through Yamal.

There was more bad news for injury-hit Dortmund after defender Nico Schlotterbeck twisted his ankle following a header in the final step of the game and required treatment on the pitch after the final whistle.
