Barry Keoghan Stays Focused After Split From Sabrina Carpenter (Exclusive Source)

Barry Keoghan is doing well following his split from Sabrina Carpenter, a source tells PEOPLE.

The Salt burn The 32-year-old star and the 25-year-old “Espresso” singer dated on and off for about a year before deciding to take a break.

A source tells PEOPLE that despite the split, Keoghan is focused on his career and family.

“Friends close to him share that he is at his strongest, happiest and the best version of himself yet,” says the insider. “He was very resilient and achieved many successes to be in this great place. He’s worked hard to get here and remains focused – and even though he and Sabrina are taking a break, it doesn’t set him back in any way – he has a lot of fortitude.”

Carpenter and Keoghan made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala this year. The source says that during their relationship, he often supported Carpenter’s career by attending her concerts while also juggling fatherhood with his 2-year-old son, Brando.

“He was a fantastic friend to her and was very present through everything she went through as her career took off – he worked very hard to be there for her when she needed someone most,” the source says told PEOPLE. “They had a great relationship and he really cared about her – which was evident from the comments he often left on her Instagram page.”

The insider insists infidelity was not a factor in their split, adding: “He was always very faithful to her from the start, there was no third person involved in their split or any other point in their relationship. Reports that suggest otherwise are completely “made up.”

A source previously told PEOPLE that Keoghan and Carpenter are going their separate ways.

“They are both young and career-focused, so they decided to take a break,” this source said.

Looking ahead, the source says Keoghan’s top priority is being a “devoted father” to his son, who he shares with former girlfriend Alyson Sandro. He is also involved in charitable causes, such as advocating for the foster care system and working with the Hazel Project, which honors bluegrass and legendary musicians.

In front of the camera, Keoghan was currently filming the Netflix series The immortal man and is currently filming Amazons Crime 101.

He is rumored to be part of Sam Mendes’ upcoming four-part Beatles film. Ringo Starr commented on the speculated casting narrative Entertainment tonight: “I think it’s great, I think he’s taking drum lessons somewhere, I hope not too many.”
