Observations at halftime

  • The two best defenses in the Bundesliga each conceded an easy goal in the first two minutes. In the third minute both teams shook off the cobwebs and started playing like professionals again.
  • Bayern played very directly and vertically, while Leipzig acted more passively. Leipzig’s counterattack was neither intentional nor inept.
  • Jamal Musiala drops deeper in the build-up play and even shows some physicality on the defensive side of the ball. His maturation into a complete player is more impressive with each performance.
  • Konrad Laimer and Michael Olise seem more comfortable with spacing and overlapping runs. The crowning achievement was Laimer’s opening goal.
  • Loïs Openda plays more like a Brazilian than a Belgian. He is so fluid and creative. Kim Min-jae’s quick effort in the 2nd minute was brilliant and he delivered an easy ball for Šeško.

HT: Bayern 3:1 Leipzig.

36′: GOAL, BAYERN!!! Joshua Kimmich’s knuckleball beats an outstretched Gulácsi.

27′: Yellow card. Xavier Schlager commits a foul in the final third.

25′: GOAL, BAVARIA!! Bayern lead 2-1. The duel between Konrad Laimer and Michael Olise ends in the goal. For Laimer it is the first Bundesliga goal of the season.

20′: Yellow card. Upamecano’s late attack earns him a yellow card. This is his fifth yellow card of the season, meaning he is suspended for the January 11 game against Gladbach.

13′: Leon Goretzka’s deflected shot goes just over the crossbar. Bayern are pushing hard for the starting signal.

10′: Musiala’s header has good power but hits the goalkeeper directly.

10′: After the turbulent start, both teams prepared to play a real professional game.

2′: Goal, Leipzig. 1:1 draw. The Bayern defense takes a nap, Benjamin Šeško scores easily.

1′: GOAL!!! Bayern are 1-0 ahead. Kimmich with the steal, Kane with the flick, Olise with the pass, Musiala with the finish.

1′: Let’s go, Bavaria, let’s go!

Great news for Bayern as Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies recovered early. Leon Goretzka will start in midfield over Aleksandar Pavlović. Everything else goes as usual.

Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig would love to end the year with a bang, but it feels more like both teams are limping over the finish line. Both teams have been hit by injuries and the three-week winter break can’t come soon enough. Bayern won the last game at the Allianz Arena 2-1, but had failed to beat Leipzig in the previous four attempts.

Opportunities: Bayern (-500), draw (+650), Opponent (+1000), Over/Under 3.5 goals

Forecast: Bayern wins 2-1. Harry Kane’s first touch of the game came in the 25th minute Panenka Penalty kick. Shortly before half-time, Loïs Openda juggles the ball through the entire Bayern defense, lies on the ground and heads the ball in from a prone position. In the 73rd minute, Alphonso Davies nutmegs four different Leipzig players before shooting the ball with his right foot for the winning goal.

It’s Bavaria time.
