Benn gets the Stars past the Rangers in OT for their fifth win in a row

Lafreniere scored on a breakaway set up by Trocheck and Panarin and hit a backhand shot through Oettinger’s five-hole at 11:24 to make it 3-0.

“They were integrated into the game,” Rangers coach Peter Laviolette said of the lineup of Trocheck, Panarin and Lafreniere. “They created a lot of chances. They were on point.”

Duchene initiated Dallas’ comeback by cutting New York’s lead to 3-1 at 12:57. He stayed on the left side and his attempted pass to Benn from the left circle went into the net, where Urho Vaakanainen’s stick failed.

Dadonov’s power play goal off a Mavrik Bourque rebound from the right circle at the far post made it 3-2 at 15:56.

The Stars outscored the Rangers 19-8 in the first period.

“Not the start I dreamed of last night but I just felt like when they scored the third I felt like we were going to get a lot of chances and if I could keep it there we could “Create the tie,” said Oettinger. “We had a lot of chances at the beginning. ‘Quickie’ made some good saves and we hit a few posts. We needed to have more chances and we did.”

Robertson tied the score at 3-3 at 13:14 of the second period. He came from behind the net, rounded the left post and shot a backhand shot past Quick.

Trocheck gave New York a 4-3 lead at 12:56 of the third period when he deflected a shot from Mika Zibanejad from between the circles on the power play.

At this point, Harley was in the penalty box for a delay of game, the puck went over the glass penalty.

“It’s not a good feeling,” Harley said.

But a defensive zone turnover by K’Andre Miller, forced by Sam Steel’s aggressive forecheck, led to Harley making it 4-4 with a shot from the right circle at 17:21.

“Much better,” Harley said. “Glad to see it went in. (Damn) great job by Steel on the forecheck there and under the bar. Everything worked out.”
