Bezos’ Blue Origin foregoes the debut launch of the New Glenn rocket

Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin on Monday The company has canceled the maiden launch of its New Glenn rocket after short-term problems with the launcher, a setback to its bid to compete with Elon Musk’s SpaceX in the satellite space.

The launch was scheduled to take place at 1 a.m. ET from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

“We are declining today’s launch attempt to resolve a vehicle subsystem issue that will take us beyond our launch window,” the company said on social media platform X.

Blue Origin said it is exploring options for its next launch attempt.

At an altitude of 320 feet, the partially reusable New Glenn rocket had its launch time delayed before the final decision was made to cancel the launch.

“As part of the long-term vision, we really need to protect this planet. And the role of space technologies,” said Ariane Cornell, vice president of in-space systems at Blue Origin, during a livestream of the planned launch. “That’s why we started with reusable rockets and reusable engines.”
