Colorado football is one of two Big 12 teams vying for the final spot in the Big 12 Championship as the final games of the regular season draw to a close.

The resulting team will face Arizona State on December 7 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Arizona State clinched a conference championship spot with its 49-7 win over rival Arizona on Saturday and TCU’s victory over Cincinnati. The Big 12 announced that nine teams remain in contention heading into the final weekend of the regular season, although that number fell to Colorado and Iowa State for the final spot toward the end of Saturday’s games.

With Colorado beating Oklahoma State on Friday and Iowa State beating Kansas State on Saturday, the scenarios for the Big 12 championship game (and a chance to reach the College Football Playoff) will depend on the outcome of BYU’s game against Houston late Hang out on Saturday night.

BYU was eliminated from the competition with Iowa State’s win.

There are two scenarios still in play to break the tie in the Big 12 championship race, with Arizona State already clinching a spot and Colorado and Iowa State winning:

Arizona State and Iowa State would reach the Big 12 Championship game.

Arizona State and Colorado would reach in this scenario, as the Buffaloes would win the tiebreaker over Iowa State as Texas Tech beats West Virginia on Saturday.

Can Colorado still make it to the Big 12 Championship?

Yes, but Colorado needs help. The Buffaloes’ only way out is for BYU to lose to Houston.

Because of Arizona State’s win, Colorado can’t reach the Big 12 championship game without a BYU loss.
