Billie Eilish was hit in the face by what appears to be a blue bracelet while performing in Glendale, Arizona on Friday. There are increasingly disturbing incidents of concertgoers throwing objects at artists while they are performing on stage, which can be dangerous and has recently caused physical harm to artists.

On Friday, Eilish sat at the side of the stage and performed her tender, Oscar-winning song “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie Soundtrack. While she was singing with her eyes closed, someone threw what appeared to be a blue bracelet at her, which hit Eilish in the face, video footage taken during the concert shows. In the clip, the singer quickly turns her face to the side and winces.

Then she looks back at the audience with a disappointed look, but as a professional singer she doesn’t miss a beat and continues singing the song. As she marches on, she picks up the bracelet and tosses it aside. Thankfully, Eilish appears to be fine after being thrown in the face, but others were seriously injured, like Bebe Rexha, who needed three stitches after she was hit by an iPhone someone threw at her face during a performance in 2023 had thrown. Last month Zach Bryan had to stop his concert in Portland after a cylindrical object hit his right leg, and just days before that, his guitarist was hit by something thrown on stage during Bryan’s tour.

Eilish has addressed this unfortunate trend of fans throwing objects at artists during their performances before.

“I don’t know why this is such a new thing. People just get excited and it can be dangerous,” she said The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. “I have mixed feelings because when you get up there it explodes. But you know it’s out of love and they’re just trying to give you something.”
