Bills QB Josh Allen suffered a broken hand during the MVP-caliber 2024 season

As his team prepares to play the Patriots today, Allen is now fully healthy and has been out for much of the 2024 season.

Allen broke his non-throwing hand in the fourth quarter of a Week 1 win over the Cardinals, flew completely into the air for a touchdown run, was shoved by two players and landed on his hand. He immediately stood up to celebrate, but looked on and shook his left hand.

Allen said after the game that he was “fine” and didn’t miss any time. The team’s subsequent injury reports listed Allen as a full participant for every practice before a quick turnaround on a Thursday night against the Dolphins.

Although Allen was known to have a hand injury – he was not placed on the injury report until Buffalo’s bye in Week 12 – the severity and nature of his injury was not previously known. Now it just adds context to the ridiculousness of what Allen has done this season.

In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year that saw the removal of several big-name, high-priced veterans, including Diggs, Allen has thrived. Allen’s 25 TD passes against five interceptions have given him a passer rating of 103.5, which represents an offense that is performing better than at any time last year.

The broken hand limited his play, with Allen taking snaps from below center 15.4 percent of the time, the third-lowest rate of his career. But that hasn’t diminished his success on the ground, as Allen is averaging 34.6 yards rushing per game, right in the wheelhouse of previous seasons.
