Boise State made an impressive run to the Mountain West title, only losing to Oregon during the regular season. The Broncos defeated UNLV in the MWC Championship to punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff and secure a bye as the No. 3 seed.

Ashton Jeanty put together an all-time season to lead the Boise State team. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting – the closest race since 2009 – as he passed for the FBS-leading 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Jeanty and the Broncos watched Penn State and SMU compete. The Nittany Lions struck first when the defense took advantage of a mistake Kevin Jennings. Dominic DeLuca He took the interception 23 yards from the end zone for a pick-six that gave Penn State a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

It happened again at the start of the second quarter. Jennings threw his second interception of the day Tony Rojas picked it off and returned it 59 yards to the house, giving Penn State a 14-0 lead with 13:09 left in the second quarter.

The lead grew to 28-0 before halftime, but SMU got back into the game with a field goal early in the second half. Penn State kept its foot on the gas pedal, however, eventually extending the lead to 38-3 in the fourth quarter before the Mustangs scored their first touchdown of the day with 7:31 to play. The result was a 38-10 ballgame.
