Popular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has been hospitalized with multiple stab injuries after an intruder reportedly entered his house and attacked him.

The attack happened early Thursday morning in an upscale area of ​​Mumbai, where Khan lives with his family.

The city police told BBC Marathi that the actor was injured after a scuffle broke out between him and an unknown man who entered his house sometime after midnight.

Khan’s family has not made any public statements, but his public relations team said it was a case of “attempted burglary,” without providing further details.

Khan was taken to the city’s Lilavati Hospital where he is undergoing surgery.

Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s operations manager, told BBC Marathi that Khan suffered six stab wounds, two of which were deep.

“One is near the spine. He will be operated on by a team of specialist doctors,” he added.

The police have launched an investigation.

“An unknown person entered the actor’s house. Thereafter, an argument broke out between him and the intruder,” said Dixit Gedam, deputy commissioner of Mumbai police.

In a statement released on Thursday morning, the actor’s team asked his fans to respect his privacy.

“We ask the media and fans for patience. It’s a police matter. We will keep you updated on the situation,” they said.
