Bomb-making supplies found at Airbnb in New Orleans are linked to the Bourbon Street attack

Bomb-making materials have reportedly been found at a New Orleans Airbnb as authorities investigate a possible connection to the truck-ramming terrorist attack that killed at least 15 people and injured more than 30 others during a New Year’s celebration on Bourbon Street .

Around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, a small fire broke out at a suspected Airbnb rental in the 1300 block of Mandeville Street in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans.

The New Orleans Fire Department evacuated dozens of people from nearby homes and contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, FOX 8 reported.

Bomb-making materials were discovered at the property, sources confirmed to the outlet.

The FBI confirmed at a news conference Thursday that FBI and ATF agents have secured the Mandeville Street home and “this location is being searched for possible evidence.” Two laptops were recovered from that address, the FBI said, and three other cellphones linked to the now-deceased suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar were being analyzed by investigators.

A neighbor of the Airbnb property, who did not want to be identified, told Fox News Digital he saw Jabbar loading the white truck on Dec. 31, the morning before the attack. He said he spoke with Jabbar briefly and Jabbar told him he had found a job and was moving to Louisiana. The neighbor said he was under the impression that Jabbar had gotten another job in the IT industry.

“He said he got the job in Louisiana that day,” the man said, describing Jabbar loading “very light stuff, portable stuff, no heavy stuff” into the white truck.

“The morning he moved, I asked him if, as a neighbor, he needed help moving out. ‘Do you need help moving?’ He said, ‘I’m fine,'” the neighbor told Fox News Digital.

The neighbor expressed disbelief when he learned that Jabbar was accused of the bloodshed on Bourbon Street. “Stunning, I was shocked, someone grabbed the carpet under my feet, I was just too shocked, unbelievable, ‘this really happened?'” the man said. “Like I said, we still don’t believe, we still don’t believe that this is the person, there’s just no way, it can’t be that way.”

At Thursday’s press conference, ATF said the Mandeville address was still being processed and that the ATF national response team – made up of certified fire investigators, explosives specialists, fire engineers and electrical technicians – was still working on additional leads to determine how the fire started that morning The attack occurred across town on Bourbon Street.

Fox News Digital reached out to the listed owner of the Airbnb rental but did not immediately receive a response.

“As you know, there is also an FBI investigation in Las Vegas. We investigate all possible leads and do not rule anything out. However, at this point, there is no definitive connection between the attack here in New Orleans and the one in Las Vegas,” Christopher Raia, deputy assistant director of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division, told reporters.
