Booker, Phoenix comes out with hot shots in the 1st quarter

The Phoenix Suns (10-7) face the Brooklyn Nets (8-10) on Wednesday, airing on Arizona’s Family (Chapter 3 TV) at 7 p.m

This is the Suns’ second straight game, the fourth of their six home games and the first of their home-and-away series against the Nets.

The Suns are coming off a 127-100 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, who have lost five games. The game reunited the Big 3 of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal after the latter two players returned from calf strains. Durant missed seven games and Beal five.

The Nets have won their last two games. They are led by former Suns starter and 3-point shooter Cameron Johnson.

Booker, the Suns are shooting hot in the 1st quarter

Phoenix got off to a red-hot start at 75% and led Brooklyn 37-34 at the end of the first quarter.

Booker scored 11 points to lead all scorers, including his four-point game that brought the Suns back to their largest lead of seven points at 3:15.

Brooklyn, led by Tyrese Martin with nine points and Ben Simmons with eight points, trailed Phoenix in the first round. But the Nets shot well at 50% and 46.2% from 3.

The Suns and Nets scored five and six goals from deep, respectively.

The Suns start from one through five with Tyus Jones, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant and Jusuf Nurkic.

The Nets open with Dennis Shcröder and Cam Johnson in the backcourt, Ben Simmons and Ziaire Williams at forward and Dorian Finney-Smith at center.

The Nets’ Johnson returns to the Valley

Cam Johnson is back in Phoenix.

This marks the former Suns fan favorite’s second return to Phoenix since he was traded to Brooklyn for Kevin Durant along with Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder and a number of future first-round draft picks.

Johnson is thriving as the Nets’ second-leading scorer this season, averaging 18.9 points on 18.9 and .498/.431/906 shooting distribution for his career.

He was drafted by the Suns in the first round in 2019 and was a key player in their 2021 NBA Finals.
