Manchester United will reportedly decide against extending Victor Lindelof’s contract, news that is likely to be well received at Everton.

The Swede had only recently returned from injury but suffered another setback on Thursday.

Ruben Amorim started the 30-year-old in the Carabao Cup quarter-final match against Tottenham Hotspur, which ended in a 4-3 win for the north Londoners.

However, Lindelof was not on the pitch to witness the madness of the second period as he was replaced by Johny Evans at half-time.

The former Benfica player has only made four starting appearances this season, all of them in the Europa League or Carabao Cup.

According to the Mirror, this latest injury is likely to solidify management’s stance on the defender’s contract situation.

Lindelof’s contract is currently expiring and this will likely be his last contract with Man United and management seems happy to show him the door at the end of the season.

Nevertheless, according to CaughtOffside, this should be an incentive for the player’s various suitors, which include Everton.

Newcastle United, West Ham United and even Serie A clubs have been mentioned as possible destinations for the player. However, the Toffees have had the player in mind as a transfer target for some time.

For his part, Gary Neville would be happy with the result, having made his stance on Lindelof’s contract dilemma clear in the past.

The veteran defender has been plying his trade at Old Trafford since 2017, when he moved from Benfica for around £30 million, but he never really managed to establish himself as a regular at the Premier League giants, which explains why the club did this continued to distribute money to defenders such as Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.
