Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Bayern Munich: Harry Kane is injured as Jamie Gittens and Jamal Musiala score

Harry Kane limped off as his Bayern Munich side came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw away at Borussia Dortmund.

Jamie Gittens’ superb individual performance in the first half seemed to condemn Vincent Kompany’s side to their first Bundesliga defeat of the season, but Jamal Musiala equalized five minutes from time.

What had been a quiet first half in The Klassiker soon came to life when Nico Schlotterbeck’s pass down the left found Gittens on the halfway line.

The England U21 international spun past Bayern right-back Konrad Laimer and shot into the penalty area before his fizzing left-footed shot was too hard for Bayern’s Manuel Neuer to stop.

In the 27th minute, Gittens became the second Englishman to score in the game after Kane, who scored a hat-trick against Dortmund last season.

Bayern’s first half got even worse six minutes later when the Bundesliga’s top scorer and England captain Kane was substituted before half-time. He signaled that he should be substituted and moved cautiously, but not because of a tackle.

The guests were only able to really test Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel in the second half.

Thomas Müller, replacing Kane, should have equalized shortly after the restart when he took the lead at the end of Musiala’s confused run, but could not beat Kobel’s outstretched hand.

Musiala, who had almost equalized from distance, finally equalized when he headed in a cross from substitute Michael Olise.

The German midfielder’s sixth goal in ten Bundesliga games this season maintained Bayern’s unbeaten domestic record.

A draw kept them at the top, seven points ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen. However, if Frankfurt wins in Heidenheim on Sunday, this lead could drop to four points.

A point for Dortmund moved them to fifth place, ahead of Freiburg on goal difference.
