Bowl schedule today: Breaking down the college football Hawaii Bowl game on December 24th

College football’s bowl lineup shuffles from year to year as games are rearranged and reconfigured based on calendar scheduling. However, one destination has remained fairly consistent on or around December 24th. The pandemic put this holiday tradition on pause in the islands for a few years, but thankfully it’s back on the late-season schedule.

It’s the only contest on Tuesday’s college football schedule, and hopefully it will provide a little evening entertainment in addition to the sugarplum visions and all the other celebratory anticipation. Here’s a quick look at the participating teams, representing both mainland coasts.

Time/TV/Location: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, Honolulu.

Why watch: There are worse ways to spend the holidays than a trip to Hawaii. The Bulls couldn’t compete with the top players in the American Athletic Championship, but won enough games along the way to earn this bid, while the Spartans and coach Ken Niumatalolo have both established new identities. South Florida QB Bryce Archie has had an up-and-down season after replacing injured starter Byrum Brown, but he will need to be sharp to keep up with SJSU’s productive aerial attack. WR Nick Nash, who led the nation in receptions for much of the campaign, will not participate, but secondary target Justin Lockhart should be available for QB Walker Eget.

Why it might disappoint: We should learn from the Bulls’ first few possessions whether they can move the ball consistently enough to keep up with the Spartans. At least there will be some pictures of warm weather to help you forget that it’s colder where you are.
