Boxing Day 2024: Full list of Premier League 2024-25 fixtures on December 26

While most of Europe’s top leagues take a break from play over the festive period, England is in complete contrast. Traditionally, one of the most unusual match days of the year, the so-called Boxing Day, takes place here shortly after Christmas.

What is Boxing Day and why is it so special?

Boxing Day, the day immediately after Christmas, is often referred to as the “Second Christmas.” Its roots go back almost to the 19th century, when it was decided that if Christmas fell on a Sunday, workers could enjoy an extra day of rest and spend time with family and loved ones. Over time, Boxing Day has become one of the most popular and celebrated holidays in the British calendar, and football plays an important role in this, allowing fans to experience a full day of action-packed football.

It is said that the first Boxing Day game was played in 1860 between Sheffield and Hallam, but it was in the 1888/89 season that the tradition began to take shape with a game between Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion.

As the Premier League prepares for another Boxing Day, here are the following December 26 games in English top-flight football for the 2024-25 season.
