Boy injured after drone falls from sky during Florida Holiday Show

A vacation drone show in Florida had to cancel its second performance this weekend due to an injury.

Andrea Otero, public information manager for the city of Orlando, tells PEOPLE that the 8 p.m. show at Lake Eola Park in Orlando did not go as planned after the 6 p.m. show on Saturday, Dec. 21, experienced “technical difficulties had”.

Otero said the Orlando Fire Department (OFD) “has been made aware of an individual who was reported to have been injured during the show. Firefighters were already in the park manning an emergency tent about 15 meters from the scene of the accident.” Paramedics began providing assistance as soon as they made contact with the person.

Orlando Police Department (OPD) investigators, Otero added, “made contact with the subject’s family at the hospital last night and will continue to assist the FAA in obtaining evidence for the investigation.”

“Our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected by the outcome of this event,” she continued.

One participant shared footage on TikTok of the moment one of the drones flew towards viewers while someone shouted “Be careful!” before the clip abruptly ended.

In another video posted by show participant Philippe of the X account (formerly Twitter) MosquitoCoFL Podcast, a few dozen drones at the show appeared to crash into each other and fall from the sky onto the ground and the lake below.

“You could see areas where the drones were missing,” Philippe, who watched the show with his son, told News 6.

Mothers Jessica Lumedge and Adriana Edgerton later claimed that their son was “fighting for his life in the emergency room” after “drones hit him in the face” during the event.

“Pray for my son, we went to the drone show at Lake Eola and one of the drones hit him in the face,” Lumedge wrote on Facebook alongside a photo of her son in the hospital with a bleeding lip.

“I’ve never been so scared. I can’t believe a drone show at Lake Eola Park turned into this. I am very scared for my baby,” Edgerton added on her Facebook page.

She called on the Orlando city government and Sky Elements Drones to be “held accountable” for the disastrous show.
