Rams vs. Jets, 1:00 ET

I try to follow my own sports betting rules. Some things are a little more arbitrary than others, but you need some kind of guiding principle to keep you in control. There are stupid rules like you should never bet on the Yankees on a Tuesday (not a real rule that I have, just an example), and other rules that try to make you make the same mistake over and over again – For example, don’t bet on a team that is cross country in the NFL. However, I’m going to throw that rule out the window here when the Rams take on the Jets.

The Rams are a bit like a cat, they seem to have nine lives each season. Last year they were bad before the bye week and then rebounded to make the playoffs. This season was largely similar, with the team going 1-4 in the first five games leading up to the exit week. Since then, the team is 7-2 with losses to the Dolphins and Eagles. I think the Eagles’ loss is understandable, but the Dophins’ loss is a bit confusing as to how that happened. In any case, they beat the Vikings and Bills during that time, proving they can beat playoff teams. Last week they faced the 49ers and beat them in one of the most boring games of the entire season. In the end, the teams played a field goal-only contest and won the game 12-6. The Jets haven’t been good this season, but they have one of the best pass defenses in football and allow the fifth-fewest pass yards in the league. New York is middle of the pack in rushing yards allowed and the Rams have been very willing to run the ball this season.

The Jets are arguably the most disappointing team in all of football. They’re just 4-10 this year and get the coverage of a Super Bowl contender because they have Aaron Rodgers under center. The team has mastered virtually every aspect of the game this year, with the exception of the aforementioned pass defense. The team was close to winning a game for several weeks and finally broke rock bottom last week against the inferior Jaguars. Now they are returning home where they are only 2-4 years old this year. The bright spot for the Jets is that last week it looked like Rodgers and Davante Adams were back in sync for the first time. Adams rushed for 198 yards and two touchdowns last week. Even Garrett Wilson managed a touchdown and had 56 yards. This was his first touchdown since October. Rodgers was pretty good for the team, throwing for the 11th-most yards, 7th-most touchdowns and only had eight interceptions. However, there are often times when their offense stalls and looks bad.

I mentioned in my article yesterday that the Ravens would be a good option to tease another game and I suggested the Bengals, but the Rams might have been a better option. If you take a 6.5 teaser you can get the Rams +3 and the Ravens would have been a pick. I can’t change the past, but I officially bet on it and shared it on the Outkick Bets podcast. Here too I bet on the Rams at -3. I think they are the better team and are still fighting for their playoff spot.
