Brian Hartline debunks the idea of Tennessee taking over Ohio Stadium

Rumors of Tennessee taking over Ohio Stadium on Saturday were greatly exaggerated, if Brian Hartline, the Buckeyes’ co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, is to be believed.

Leading up to Saturday’s 42-17 upset of the Vols by the Buckeyes, there were rumors of large numbers of Tennessee fans making the odyssey from Knoxville to Columbus in December for a rare game between the Big Ten and the SEC at a non-neutral site to watch the first round of the College Football Playoff.

While there were undoubtedly plenty of Vols fans in the audience – the College Football Playoff controls matters like ticket allocation – Ohio State presented itself in its own stadium, just as Notre Dame did on Friday night and Penn State and Texas earlier Saturday.

One pundit tried to claim that Tennessee successfully outran Ohio Stadium before kickoff, but Hartline said after the game that the Vols crowd never reached the noise level shown in his video. “No, it didn’t. It never sounded like that. I really appreciate the effort though.”

“Buckeye Nation left no doubt,” Hartline wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
