LSU football will look different in the Texas Bowl.

Opt-outs and the transfer portal changed the look of the roster, leaving LSU without its two starting players and three of its top four pass catchers.

On defense, LSU is missing starting safety Major Burns and Sage Ryan. Jordan Allen and Kylin Jackson, who provided depth in that position, also scored.

The departures provide a chance for new faces to prove something against Baylor. LSU head coach Brian Kelly met with the media on Monday and talked about some young guys that Tiger fans can expect.

“I think you have to look at the offensive line first. Weston Davis gets a lot of work. Tyree Adams gets a lot of work. Coen Echols gets a lot of work. “These guys are now being pushed to potentially play some significant time,” Kelly said.

At wide receiver, Brian Kelly singled out true freshman Kylan Billiot as a guy who will get a chance. According to 247Sports, Billot was the No. 64 recruit in the class of 2024. He is talented but did not play in the regular season.

On defense, Kelly said safety Da’Shawn Spears plays a lot. Tiger fans already know the true freshman after he played 178 snaps in the regular season.

Javien Toviano, who recently returned to safety after playing at corner, could also get a chance to play.

LSU still needs to add a safety in the transfer portal. Promising performances from Spears and Toviano would make LSU more optimistic about the back end in 2025.

“Probably six or seven other people that I’m not mentioning now will get a chance that you’ll see tomorrow,” Kelly said.
