Brock Purdy of the 49ers leaves the game with an apparent hand injury

The San Francisco 49ers are looking to finish the 2024 regular season strong. They can do this by beating the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 17.

The problem is that the team may need to move on from star quarterback Brock Purdy. Purdy blocked a massive shot from a Lions defender and was immediately taken out of the game.

While standing on the sideline, Purdy began moving his hand and was clearly in pain. The telecast pointed out that the right wrist and right wrist were the problem for the 49ers signal-caller.

Purdy left the game with about 1:30 left. Josh Dobbs immediately came in and started moving the ball while Purdy was on the sideline trying to throw the ball with his injured hand.

Purdy appeared to be in significant pain and removed his helmet shortly after attempting to throw the ball. If this injury keeps him from the final game of the season, it would be a disappointing situation to end a rather disappointing season for the 49ers.

The 49ers are a year removed from a Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. They were considered the NFC team to beat and were predicted to make the postseason and the Super Bowl. However, they have already been eliminated from playoff contention.

San Francisco has struggled all season with injuries that have derailed their season. Star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was ruled out for the season after signing a major contract extension.

Deebo Samuel and George Kittle also missed games early in the season. One of the biggest injuries the team faced was the loss of Christian McCaffrey. The dual-threat running back missed most of the 2024 season because he suffered tendonitis in both feet. He returned in Week 10 but suffered a PCL injury shortly thereafter.

The massive losses on both sides resulted in the 49ers having a disappointing season. Now it looks like Purdy could join his fellow stars and miss a game this season.

Purdy is due for a sizeable contract extension, and his injury likely won’t impact that extension. Although he is expected to get a huge extension, he may not reposition the market.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott set the market at $60 million per season when he signed a record $240 million four-year contract.

Purdy should fetch a big price himself, and the 49ers could also use the quarterback if that near-last-second injury affected him in any way before Week 18.
