Bronny James makes his debut in the away game at South Bay on Thursday

Bronny James’ rookie season went as expected in Los Angeles.

Since he’s a developmental player and was taken late in the second round by the Lakers, his first year in the NBA has seen him watch a lot and make a few changes here and there.

He has also played for the team’s G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, although only during home games.

However, that is no longer the case as ESPN’s Shams Charania has reported that Bronny will play with the G League team when they face the Valley Suns on the road on Thursday.

This is a change of events as it was reported earlier this season that Bronny would not participate in South Bay’s away games.

Bronny played well for the South Bay Lakers. His last appearance was Saturday, when he played 21 minutes and scored 16 points on 6-for-15 shooting in the team’s 119-111 win over the San Diego Clippers.

To put this into perspective, this South Bay game means more playing time than Bronny has had all season with the Lakers. So far, he has played a total of 17 minutes in seven games, scoring four points on 1-for-8 shooting with the Purple and Gold.

Every newbie needs different environments to succeed, and for Bronny, getting more replays is ideal.

It’s important to remember that he only played 25 games in his only season at USC due to the cardiac arrest he suffered the summer before his college career began.

So, playing as much basketball as possible, whether in the NBA or the G League, will help Bronny develop into the best player he can be.

Not that the Lakers would ever care about criticism, but hopefully his participation in G League away games will quiet the outcry of people complaining about Bronny only attending home games in the South Bay.

The franchise is focused on Bronny’s best interests and that is their primary motivation when making decisions about the rookie guard.

Several Lakers attended G League games during their rookie seasons, including Max Christie, Maxwell Lewis and Jalen Hood-Schifino just last season.

Bronny is doing it all now, from his NBA and G League debuts away and at home. Hopefully the hysteria surrounding him will subside and he will simply find his place in the NBA and with the Lakers.
