Broome and Tigers bully Buckeyes – AuburnSports: Auburn Tigers football and basketball recruiting

Ohio State scored the first three points of the game and took a 3-0 lead. No. 2 Auburn made sure that was the only lead the Buckeyes had on the day.

Johni Broome recorded a double-double in the first half alone as the Tigers won 91-53 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon.

Auburn responded to the small deficit and began the game with a 25-5 run to take control of the game and take a 25-8 lead with 12:22 left before halftime. The Tigers then went on a scoring drought, failing to make a basket for nearly seven minutes before Broome parried a missed shot. Auburn’s defense was great during this losing streak, holding the Buckeyes to just six points.

A 9-0 run followed, which was capped off by a layup from Chad Baker-Mazara to make the score 34:14. A lob from Tahaad Pettiford to Dylan Cardwell with 33 seconds left brought the lead to 49:21 at halftime.

It was a similar story in the second half as Auburn jumped out to a 35-point lead with 10:05 left.

Broome finished with a career-high 21 points and 20 rebounds, recording his seventh double-double of the season in 10 games. Denver Jones scored 14 points on 4 of 5 three-point shots, while Dylan Cardwell had 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Jahki Howard scored 11 points in the second half.

Bruce Pearl saw how dominant Broome was in the win.

“He is so incredibly talented,” said the head coach. “Then six assists without losing the ball.”

As for Broome, he believes he could have played even better, which is scary for opposing teams in the future.

“I feel like I can get better,” he said.

The Tigers held Ohio State to a season-low 53 points.

Auburn (9-1) returns to Neville Arena on Tuesday night and welcomes Georgia State. The launch date is set for 7:00 p.m. CT and will air on SEC Network+.
