Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb has suffered another major injury setback.

The 28-year-old, who has a difficult injury history, was forced out of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs due to an apparent non-contact foot injury in the third quarter. After the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters that Chubb had broken his left foot.

“I saw in the front row what he achieved. I can’t tell you how much I respect him as a person,” Stefanski said in the postgame press conference. “Really, really disappointed with this injury. (But it) doesn’t change the fact that he continues to inspire this football team with his daily approach. And I know this is just another obstacle he will overcome.”

On a play fake, Chubb ran toward the line while Jameis Winston kept the ball. Chubb then appeared to take a heavy step with his left foot and pulled himself up, holding his left foot in the air. He was initially considered questionable, but was officially excluded from the team after an evaluation.

The Chiefs won the game 21-7.

After the game, Chubb left the locker room with crutches and a boot on his left foot, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.

Chubb missed the start of the season after suffering a serious left knee injury in September 2023; He had already injured the same knee in 2015. After spending more than a year overcoming the injury, Chubb made his 2024 season debut in the Week 7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, scoring a touchdown in his return.

Before leaving Sunday’s game, Chubb had nine carries and ran for 41 yards. He also lost a fumble and dropped a pass that led to Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton getting a wild interception.
