Bruce Pearl gives an injury update on Johni Broome after Georgia State’s win

Auburn earned another stunning victory on Tuesday night, using a strong second half to beat Georgia State 100-59 and improve to 10-1 on the season.

The big and unfortunate story of the night for the Tigers, however, was an injury suffered by star center Johni Broome in the first two minutes of the game.

Broome appeared to have injured his right arm after struggling for a rebound in the first half. He immediately ran off the field, clutching his shoulder, and did not return to the game.

During the second half, he sat on the Auburn bench with a sling on his right arm. Broome appeared to be in good spirits on the sidelines, cheering and joking with his teammates.

When Bruce Pearl spoke to Auburn Radio after the game, he said he “couldn’t imagine” Broome playing against Purdue.

Pearl began his postgame press conference by addressing Broome’s injury but did not give an exact timeline.

“Apparently his right shoulder came out somehow. Came right back. He did it a year ago, so he has some experience with it,” Pearl said. “We’ll take a look at it tomorrow and tell you more, but we hope he’s okay.”

While Pearl didn’t say whether or not Broome would miss more playing time, he did point out that Chaney Johnson would likely slide into the starting lineup if Broome couldn’t play.

Johnson had the highlight of his Auburn career with 26 points against Georgia State and replaced Broome when he left the game in the first half. He would likely play at four while Dylan Cardwell would play at five if he were to make the starting lineup.
