“Bruins quickly hire new OC”

“Bruins quickly hire new OC”

The UCLA Bruins parted ways with former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy after just one season and hired their new man in less than 24 hours. According to On3’s Zach Osterman, former Indiana Hoosiers quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri will take over the Bruins’ offense next season.

Sunseri will finish his duties with the Hoosiers as they seek a spot in the College Football Playoff after an impressive 11-1 season under first-year head coach Curt Cignetti. Sunseri is in his first year with the Hoosiers, coming from James Madison with Cignetti.

Sunseri joined Cignetti’s staff at James Madison in 2021 and remained with him as quarterbacks coach until last season before moving to take over the role while also serving as the Hoosiers’ co-offensive coordinator.

Just 35 years old, Sunseri has extensive experience coaching at the highest collegiate level, with stints at Florida State University, Tennessee and Alabama, and spending the remainder of his time at Cignetti. He will take on a much larger role as the Bruins’ sole offensive coordinator.

Sunseri was the starting quarterback at the University of Pittsburgh for three seasons and led the Panthers to a 20-19 record and three bowl appearances. From 2013 to 2015, he played professionally in the Canadian Football League for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Bruins are getting an experienced offensive player who can improve this offensive scheme and success. He helped lead Hoosiers quarterback Kurtis Rourke to a season with over 2,800 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He can do the same thing with the Bruins’ next quarterback.
