It has been nearly 25 years since audiences first heard the now familiar cry of “Malcolm!” from actors Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, but they’re back with a new series of Malcolm in the Middle.

The pair, who played the eponymous Malcolm’s chaotic parents, repeated their tagline in a video posted to social media on Friday, announcing that the series would return with its original cast.

Frankie Muniz, now 39 years old and returning to his role as the series’ protagonist, said: “I’ve been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now.”

Disney+ has commissioned four new episodes, the plot of which is based on Malcolm and his daughter being “pulled back into the chaos of the family when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.” A date for the broadcast of the episodes has not yet been set.

The original sitcom premiered in 2000 and ended in 2006 after 151 episodes, during which it won multiple Emmy awards. They Might Be Giants, the band behind the show’s theme song, Boss of Me, also won a Grammy.

Cranston, who received critical acclaim after the show for his performance on the crime series “Breaking Bad,” said he was so excited for the show’s return that he “maybe peed… just a little.”

Kaczmarek said: “What a joy to shout at this boy again!” We are really looking forward to getting together again and seeing what this family has been up to.”

Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis told Variety magazine that she hoped fans would be excited to see the show again, promising that it would contain “all the laughs, pranks and mayhem fans have come to expect.” fans loved the first time around.

“Malcolm in the Middle is a groundbreaking sitcom that captures the essence of family life with humor, heart and empathy,” she said. “His hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of an endearingly chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages and we are thrilled to welcome back the original cast to bring this magic to life.”

Original series creator Linwood Boomer also returns as a writer and executive producer.

The show is the third early 2000s television series to announce a revival in the past week, following reports that “Scrubs” is making a comeback at ABC and a reboot of “Prison Break” has received a pilot order at Hulu.
