Bryce Young gets a slightly lower grade after the loss to the Eagles

The Carolina Panthers lost again by a narrow margin. The Philadelphia Eagles held them off by a score of 22-16. It was another solid performance for Bryce Young, whose wide receivers didn’t help and he made his first real mistake in weeks.

Young got the ball within three minutes and no timeouts and marched 98 yards for a touchdown with the Panthers trailing by six. He made one of the best plays he’s had all year, avoiding the safety on third-and-11 and giving Xavier Legette a huge lead on an absolute dime. Thielen was then targeted with another dime on fourth down.

Legette also dropped an open-offense touchdown on an overall terrible day for the young wide receiver. Despite the narrow defeat, Young’s assertiveness, which has been clearly visible in the last few weeks, came into its own.

Young did a very good job avoiding pressure and using his legs to gain distance. The Eagles often came under pressure, but most of the time they didn’t really go home. He wasn’t able to extend plays and make big gains down the field too often, but his pocket presence was once again good.

The only record on his record was an interception in the first half. Young gave Adam Thielen a little too much air on a throw after failing to move the safety with his eyes, and CJ Gardner-Johnson did as the Panthers took the lead in the final two minutes of the half.

The only other major miss came on a four-and-two in opponent territory when the ball fell flat for Xavier Legette. However, the play was countered so well by Philadelphia that no one was really open and the cornerback would have broken it off anyway.

This was one of the toughest matchups for Young to date. The Eagles came into the game with the third-best pass defense and one of the best overall units in the league. Young didn’t have an impressive game like the last two weeks, but he played pretty well overall, although Xavier Legette hurt him again with a few brutal drops – Young’s grade: B.
