COLUMBUS, Ohio – As Tennessee fans travel to Columbus for the playoff game, Buckeye fans are ready to show off.

“It’s going to be dark, it’s going to be a night game under the lights, it’s going to be cold, it’s got everything you need for a great game,” Buckeye fan Weston Blair said.

Buckeye fans prepare for their biggest game of the season under the lights at the Shoe.

“I know there will be a lot of people here, hopefully more scarlet than orange,” Blair said.

But Vols fans are coming in droves.

“I’ve always wanted to come to a game up here,” said Chad Gowen, a Vols fan.

While brothers Chad and Phillip Gowen made their way to actually go to the game, their wives received moral support.

“We’ll probably do that because we need to know the husbands’ mood when we pick them up,” said Chad’s wife, Jill Gowen.

The game is as big a deal for Tennessee as it is for Ohio.

“We haven’t been in the playoffs in a long time, so it’s exciting for all Tennessee fans,” Phillip said.

While the Gowens are a united family, the Dubes are a divided front.

“My son is the only one of my children that I didn’t brainwash into becoming an Ohio State fan,” said Ernie Dube, an Ohio State fan.

Father and son were in disbelief when they heard about the encounter.

“We both just looked at each other and said, ‘Are they really going to play against each other?’ He said, “I think so.” And I said, “You know what, we’ll get some tickets and go,” Ernie said.

“I’m looking forward to my first game at Tennessee,” said Spencer Dube, Ernie’s son.

Ernie and Spencer flew in from Massachusetts for the big game.

Many people are currently thinking about keeping warm.

“He brought all the clothes from his closet,” said Phillip’s wife, Jill.

For some, the Scarlets fan base consists of three layers.

“I have scarlet leggings on, which helps, but I have three layers, all Ohio State shirts,” Blair said.

All fans alike are preparing for the worst but hoping for the best, in more ways than one.

“If Ohio State loses, the flight home will be a little smoother. If Tennessee loses, he’ll probably get over it a little quicker,” Ernie said.
