Buffalo Bills made a push to poach the Chiefs’ impending free agent

The Buffalo Bills are fully focused on their pursuit of a Super Bowl this season, but it’s never too early to start looking ahead to the offseason.

Heading into the offseason this year, the Bills will have a task ahead of them. They need to continue to improve the squad as they have their championship window open for years to come.

With that in mind, Buffalo has been pushed to consider trying to steal an impending free agent from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Before the NFL trade deadline this year, the Chiefs completed a trade with the New England Patriots. In this trade, they received talented 26-year-old pass rusher Josh Uche. However, Uche hasn’t had much of an impact on Kansas City since the move.

Uche is expected to hit free agency this offseason. It’s not particularly likely that the Chiefs will pay to bring him back after he failed to carve out a big role for himself this year.

Bleacher Report believes the Bills should look into poaching him from Kansas City.

They believe the success Buffalo has had after moving on from several other stars should make it easier for them to cut ties with Von Miller and replace him with a younger edge rusher.

“That should give them the confidence to cut Von Miller this offseason. You can cut the veteran before June 1 and save $8.5 million against the cap, or wait until June 2 to reach $17.5 million in savings. Either way, the Bills could be in.” Looking for a pass rush specialist to fill Miller’s role is Gregory Rousseau, the main event of the Bills edge rusher group, but Uche would be a good addition.

During the 2024 NFL season, which was split between the Patriots and Chiefs, Uche played in 12 games. He totaled 15 tackles and two sacks.

Obviously these numbers aren’t great. However, Uche has shown elite pass rushing skills in the past.

During the 2022 season in New England, Uche managed 27 tackles, 11.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 15 games. He has the talent, but he needs the right fit and scheme to fit in.

When all is said and done, Uche may not be an offseason target for the Bills. But he could be an interesting target to strengthen the pass rush at a reasonable price. He is a name to keep an eye on.
