Buffalo Bills vs. Denver Broncos: First half open thread

The Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos meet today in the Wild Card round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs, and for both teams it is the culmination of a year in which they have exceeded all expectations. For the Broncos, many doubted whether head coach Sean Payton and rookie quarterback Bo Nix could turn their first year together into a playoff spot so quickly, and yet the Broncos qualified for the postseason for the first time since the 2015 season.

As for Buffalo, the Bills were able to silence doubters throughout the regular season, most of whom wrote the Bills off as the third-best team in the AFC East after several veterans departed last offseason. The Bills clinched just their fifth straight division title and seventh playoff appearance in head coach Sean McDermott’s eight seasons with the team, securing second place in the conference for the third time in that span.

Today quarterback Josh Allen starts the playoffs for the eleventh time. Today is also quarterback Bo Nix’s first playoff start. Both players have excellent athleticism, attack efficiently and effectively and can make outstanding plays at any time. While much will come down to the quarterbacks, it’s ultimately the running backs and defense that could decide this game, as Buffalo’s James Cook and the Bills’ offensive front have to contend with a stellar Denver defensive line. The Broncos have struggled to run the football effectively this season, but the Bills have been vulnerable to the run at times. This duel is definitely interesting and luckily we are just a few minutes away from seeing the outcome rather than speculating about it.
