Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots: Open thread for the first half

The Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots meet this week for the first time in the 2024 NFL season. Buffalo is 11-3 overall and has the No. 2 overall pick in the AFC, while New England is 3-11 and has the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Amazingly, New England is on track to finish alone in last place in the AFC East for the second straight year. If so, it would be the first time in New England franchise history that they would be solely owned by the club for two consecutive years. The last time they finished in last place twice in a row was in the 1999 and 2000 seasons. They tied for last place with the New York Jets in 1999 with an 8-8 record.

The Bills have some franchise records in play that could soon fall. Running back James Cook has scored 13 rushing touchdowns this year, tied for the third-best single-season mark in team history. He needs three more touchdowns to match OJ Simpson’s record of 16 set in 1975. Perhaps even more absurd is that quarterback Josh Allen currently sits second in franchise history with 64 rushing touchdowns. He only needs one more rushing touchdown to tie Thurman Thomas for the most in franchise history.

Will any of these records fall today? We’ll see once the game starts. At the moment this is your open thread. I’ll even check again to make sure it’s published at the right time this week! Remember to be polite to each other. Don’t forget to change the comments to “Oldest” if you’re looking for the feel of a classic gaming thread. And most importantly, enjoy the game wherever you watch it.

Come on, bills!
