Buffalo Bills vs. San Francisco 49ers – second half open thread

The Buffalo Bills lead the San Francisco 49ers 21-3 at halftime after 30 minutes of winter football dominance. It was an inauspicious start for the Bills, where offensive coordinator Joe Brady seemed caught off guard by the unpredictable weather shift that brought more snow earlier than predicted.

Brady adjusted and found plays that allowed Buffalo’s offensive line to use its strength and penetration downhill against a 49ers defense that wasn’t used to lake-effect snow. San Francisco got the memo about the benefits of playing in the snow, and running back Christian McCaffrey had a melting start to the evening when he was suddenly off the field and heading to the locker room with an apparent knee injury.

Running back James Cook played a starring role in the first half, rushing for 100 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Cook just looks quicker than everyone chasing him tonight. That’s to be expected in a snow game, where it’s much easier to move forward than to react to a ball carrier running forward.

Most notable at halftime is quarterback Josh Allen, who passed Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly as the all-time touchdown leader in Buffalo Bills franchise history. Allen isn’t even 30 years old yet and has already set a new team record before his seventh professional season is over. Not bad for an overrated quarterback, right?

There is concern about Allen’s left hand as he winced while holding it in an early fight. That likely means Buffalo’s coaches will do everything they can to limit the risk of further injuries this evening.

Here’s your open thread for the rest of today’s game. As always, be kind to one another and in all things… Go Bills!
