Bulldozer clears away abandoned cars, Steve Guttenberg TV interview

Local television news reports live on the Palisades fire, creating some surreal scenes that even longtime Los Angeles residents have never seen.

Below is wild video of a giant bulldozer driving through dozens of cars — including Mercedes and other high-end brands — that were abandoned on Palisades Drive as a gridlock occurred during mandatory evacuations Tuesday morning. Check it out above.

Earlier, KTLA reporter Gene Kang conducted interviews with men on the street and encountered a resident who complained about vehicles blocking the street. It turned out to be Steve Guttenberg, whom the reporter did not immediately recognize.

“What’s happening is people are taking their keys like they’re in a parking lot,” he said. “This is not a parking lot. We really need people to move their cars. If you leave your car behind, leave the key in it so someone like me can move your car so those fire trucks can get there.”

Not long after, the bulldozer was called in to clear the road so firefighters and equipment could reach homes threatened by the fire. As the vehicle moved cars to both sides of the street, onlookers could see at least one building in the background going up in flames.

The story continues to air live on LA network affiliates KCBS, KNBC and KABC, as well as local stations PBS SoCal, KTLA, KCAL, KTTV and more. Gov. Gavin Newsom is in town to investigate the situation as extremely strong winds are expected in the area later and overnight.
