PHOENIX – Wrap yourself up! It’s another cold morning across Arizona. Even with our highs, temperatures remain below normal for this time of year.

Freeze warnings are in effect until 9 a.m. this morning for much of south-central, southeast and southwest Arizona. These include Maricopa, Casa Grande, Coolidge, Florence, Ahwatukee, Queen Creek, South Chandler and East Mesa, San Tan Valley, Wickenburg and Quartzsite.

Additionally Freeze warnings apply from Saturday night to Sunday morning and now cover most of the Phoenix metropolitan area. We could also see them back in force from Sunday night into Monday morning. Stay tuned for updates.

Wrap exposed pipes, cover sensitive plants, and bring pets inside to protect them.

In the valley, morning temperatures will drop to between 30 and 40 degrees, while afternoon maximum temperatures will rise again to between 30 and 60 degrees.

As winds shift from the north this week, gusts could reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour along the Colorado River Valley. A Wind warning applies to Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City from 10 a.m. today to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Winds will remain light across the Phoenix metropolitan area as our forecast remains cool and dry.

Further frost is expected in parts of the valley late this weekend and into the early hours of early next week.

Phoenix Sky Harbor has not experienced temperatures below freezing since January 2, 2019. Current forecasts suggest temperatures at the airport will remain just above freezing, extending the city’s six-year streak of temperatures above 32 degrees.

Next week will be a gradual warm-up. Trough highs will climb to the 70s beginning Tuesday.
