Burt, the beloved crocodile best known for his starring role in the Australian film Crocodile Dundee, passed away last weekend. His age was estimated to be over 90 years old.

The Australian crocodile park where he lived in his later years announced his death in an Instagram post on Sunday.

“Burt was truly one of a kind. He wasn’t just a crocodile; he was a force of nature and a reminder of the power and majesty of these incredible creatures,” said Crocosaurus Cove.

Burt rose to fame after appearing in Peter Fairmann’s 1986 film Crocodile Dundee alongside Paul Hogan, who played fearless Australian crocodile hunter Michael J. “Crocodile” Dundee. The crocodile’s most memorable movie moment was when it attacked an American reporter by Linda Kozlowski, near a river bank.

The comedy was a huge box office success and led to two sequels.

Its saltwater star Burt was photographed in the Reynolds River in the 1980s before making his film debut, according to Crocosaurus Cove, which credits the famous crocodile with “helping to enhance Australia’s image as a land of raw, natural beauty and awe-inspiring.” to shape”. wildlife.”

“Burt’s life story is one of strength, resilience and a personality as brave as the Top End itself,” the attraction says. “Although his personality could be challenging, that was also what made him so memorable and beloved by those who worked with him and the thousands who visited him over the years.”

Burt made his way to Crocosaurus Cove in 2008 and quickly became an ambassador for crocodile education, according to the park. They said visitors from around the world were impressed by its size and commanding presence, especially at feeding time.

To honor Burt’s legacy, Crocosaurus Cove plans to place a memorial sign on its attraction “to celebrate his extraordinary life and the stories and interactions he shared during his time at the park.”

“As we mourn his loss, we are reminded of the critical role of wildlife in our shared history and the importance of preserving it for future generations,” the park said.
