Caleb Williams surpasses Kyler Murray to break Lions-Bears NFL rookie record

Caleb Williams’ rookie season didn’t go entirely smoothly. Chicago has lost five straight games, and Williams was already under the NFL coaching hub since his offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron, was fired earlier this month.

Amid the goal and win drought, Williams has quietly kept track, stringing together scoring stats that have placed him at the highest echelon of certain rookie leaderboards.

Larry Mayer pointed out that Williams set an NFL rookie record with 212 consecutive pass attempts without an interception. He also set a Bears franchise record for most passing touchdowns as a rookie quarterback.

Of course, these statistics require context. Chicago struggled to sustain its offense, and while the lack of interceptions wasn’t a bad thing, it didn’t necessarily reflect a great game.

Bears fans are hoping this is a signal that Williams is figuring it out and that the rookie quarterback just needs a little more stability around him to put together winning football.

At the time of this writing, the Bears are trying to recover from a first-half deficit that fell by 10 points in the fourth quarter. Their NFL streak of five Thanksgiving games is in jeopardy.
