Calls for action are growing as sightings continue in the northeast

What happened when Britain had a mysterious drone problem?

The spate of drone sightings in the northeastern United States may sound familiar to people across the Atlantic who faced a similar problem five years ago.

In 2018, all flights at London Gatwick Airport were canceled for 36 hours, disrupting the Christmas travel plans of around 120,000 travelers.

A number of drones were reportedly spotted in the skies around the airport, 30 miles south of London in the county of Sussex, but no perpetrator or motive has been found.

An Israeli-developed radar system was used to track drones and jam operators’ signals, but to no avail. A reward of 50,000 pounds ($63,000) has been offered for information leading to an arrest.

The subsequent investigation found so little hard evidence of the alleged drones that police admitted that those who reported seeing them at all may have been mistaken.
