Can the Red Sox pull off a Cleveland miracle by winning the 2025 draft lottery?

The MLB Draft lottery takes place Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and will air on MLB Network. The Red Sox and other teams learn their 2025 draft position.

Boston finished the 2024 season with a record of 81-81, the 13th-worst record in the major. So the Red Sox’ best chance is to get the 13th overall pick. For example, they ended the 2023 season with the twelfth-worst record and ended up twelfth overall.

So it’s likely it will play out that way tonight – but don’t rule out a Cleveland miracle.

The Cleveland Guardians won the lottery last year despite having a 2% chance, selecting Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana first overall.

The Red Sox only have a 1.2% chance of getting the No. 1 overall pick this year. But as the last year has shown, anything can happen.

The Rockies and Marlins have the highest odds of winning the top pick. Both have a 22.5% chance.

The Angels have an 18% chance, followed by the Nationals at 10.2%, the Blue Jays at 7.5%, the Pirates at 5.3%, the Reds at 3.7%, the Rangers at 2.5 %, the Giants at 1.9% and the Rays at 1.5%, the Red Sox at 1.2% and the Twins at 1.1%. All remaining eligible teams have a less than one percent chance.

The White Sox finished 41-121, the worst MLB record of 2025. However, as a club that received a lottery pick in 2024, they are not eligible for the top selection. They will finish 10th.
