Carson Beck injury: Georgia QB goes down after suffering a hit before halftime of the SEC Championship

Just before halftime of Saturday’s SEC Championship against Texas, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck went to the ground and held his arm. He got up and walked off the field and Kirby Smart said the staff would examine him in the locker room during the break.

Beck wanted to make one last throw before the break, but was hit. As the Longhorns and Bulldogs battled for the ball behind him, Beck stayed on the ground holding his right arm.

Smart said the staff would evaluate things in the halftime locker room. But he expressed optimism that his quarterback could give it a try coming out of the break.

“He should be,” Smart said when asked by ABC Holly Rowe whether Beck could play in the second half. “I don’t know. We need to take a look at him.”

Smart chatted with Beck on the field before heading to the locker room for halftime. He said Beck led him through the game, but Smart said he had to throw the ball away instead of trying to make something happen with the pass rush coming at him.

“He just said his hand was hit when he threw it there,” Smart said. “The guy went all the way around the corner, which is what people do in a situation like that. He has to be aware of it and just get rid of the ball.”
