Catamounts savors the moment on the eve of the national championship

CARY, NC (WCAX) – It all comes down to Monday.

The NCAA men’s soccer season ends at 8 p.m. with just two teams left: the Marshall Thundering Herd and the Vermont Catamounts.

UVM has already made history this season, making it to the program’s first College Cup, and now it’s its first-ever championship game. Powered by the magical Yaniv Bazini, who has scored a goal in every tournament game so far, the Cats will face a Marshall program looking for its second national title in the last five seasons. Sunday’s practice was their last chance to prepare for the one-loss Thundering Herd before the final day of the season, and the Cats say they are ready to make history once again and enjoy every moment of the journey .

“We are all excited, we just finished another session, we are ready. We’re just ready to win a normal game,” Bazini said after training. “I know it’s a final, but we will concentrate and prepare as if it were a normal game.”

“We have had some transportation issues and eat the same eggs every morning, but appreciate that they are made for us,” head coach Rob Dow said with a smile. “Look, I can’t tell you how much fun it is to be with these guys. The best thing about this run is that it lasts so long, well into the winter.

“We’re trying to take it one game at a time this season. This is the last time this group will get together, so I think we’re trying to keep the pressure as low as possible and have a good time,” said defender Nathan Simeon. “We all love this sport and try to express ourselves and I think the training has been fantastic, people are smiling everywhere. I hope that it continues throughout the whole game and that the mood remains positive.”

The game begins at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
