Caught on video: Woman racially insults family on United shuttle bus at LAX

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A woman was caught on video hurling racist remarks and making obscene gestures toward a couple and their children on a shuttle bus at Los Angeles International Airport.

Pervez and Nicole Taufiq traveled to Los Angeles with their three children to spend Thanksgiving with family. They were on a shuttle bus when the woman launched into her disturbing tirade.

“Your family comes from India. You have no respect. You have no rules. You think you can push anyone,” the woman said in the video.

While giving the middle finger, the woman continued, “You guys are crazy.”

Before the encounter on the bus, parents said the woman’s bizarre behavior began when she sat next to her 11-year-old son on a United Airlines flight. Pervez Taufiq told Eyewitness News that the woman asked his son if he was Indian.

After arriving at LAX and boarding a shuttle bus, one of the children pointed to the planes on the tarmac.

“He’s obsessed with airplanes because we travel a lot for work, and then she targeted our four-year-old and eight-year-old and said, ‘Shut up, just shut up,'” Pervez recalls.

During the tirade, the unidentified woman told Pervez that he was not American.

“You are not American… not original. You’re from India,” she said.

When Pervez tells her he was born in America, the woman replies, “No, you weren’t.”

The family’s eleven-year-old son finds it difficult to understand the situation. The parents said they had to tell him he hadn’t done anything wrong.

With the help of United employees, the woman was eventually able to exit the shuttle. A staff member told the family that she might end up on a no-fly list.

Nicole Taufiq said those who witnessed the encounter did not intervene to help.

“The silence from everyone standing by was truly deafening,” Nicole said. “I know people don’t like being in uncomfortable situations, but the silence was, in a way, like siding with the attacker.”

When reached for comment, United said it had no further information to share.

The family said they hope to identify the woman as they plan to press charges.
