Champions League: Do Celtic look “ready for knockout football”?

With Dinamo going through something of an injury crisis, Celtic went into the game as favorites but were never really a threat on the difficult pitch.

Rodgers admitted there was a feeling that one point might have been three and that progress to the knockout stages could have been even closer.

“The disappointment will be that they didn’t create as many chances as they would have liked,” McFadden added. “It shows how far they have come that they are disappointed to some extent.

“Nine points after six games. Before we get started you would say this is a great starting point for Celtic.”

“They are in an incredible position to end up exactly where they wanted to end up before this campaign began.”

The mood of the players reflected that.

“We get the point, but we came here for three,” defender Auston Trusty said. “It was a solid performance. We thought we could get more out of the game.”

Trusty has contributed significantly to Celtic’s improved defensive performances on the continent and his claim that they came to Zagreb to win is testament to more than just improved performances.

Celtic now expect to play away and win Champions League games.

That was almost unthinkable last season when they scored ten goals away at Parkhead without scoring one themselves.

As McFadden says, it shows how far they’ve come.
