Bamba had just won the WBA cruiserweight gold title on December 21, less than a week before his death.

On December 24th, just before Christmas, he posted a long message on Instagram reflecting on his success this year.

“This year I set myself a goal. That’s exactly what I achieved! “It wasn’t easy, there were many obstacles I had to overcome and I stayed on the path I chose, regardless of extenuating circumstances,” Bamba wrote in his caption.

“14 fights, 14 knockouts ending with the WBA GOLD cruiserweight world title,” Bamba continued, adding, “Blessed to have my family, my team and all my supporters along the way. Besides, when you achieve what some would call an “outlandish goal,” “Hunt it. Anyone who thinks they’re not as brave as you, prove people wrong!”
