Chance: The rapper's wife, Kirsten Corley Bennett, is filing for divorce

Chances are the rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley Bennett are breaking up.

On Friday, Corley Bennett filed for divorce from the Chicago rapper in Cook County, Illinois, according to court records reviewed by USA TODAY. The filing came after The Voice judge, whose legal name is Chancelor Bennett, announced the couple’s split in an April post on his Instagram Stories.

USA TODAY has reached out to Chance the Rapper’s representatives for comment.

In April, the exes revealed their split in a joint statement posted to Chance’s Instagram Stories. It said: “After a period of separation, we have both made the decision to separate” and that “we have made this decision amicably and amicably.” Gratitude for the time we spent together.

“We politely ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition,” the statement concluded.

The couple have two daughters together, nine-year-old Kensli and five-year-old Marli Grace, whom they want to “raise together.” Chance and Corley married in March 2019.

The two reportedly exchanged vows during a ceremony at the luxurious Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, with a star-studded list of attendees including Kim Kardashian, Kanye “Ye” West, Dave Chappelle and singer Kirk Franklin also in attendance was performed during the ceremony, according to Paper City Magazine.

According to the Chicago Tribune, a marriage certificate shows that the couple got married in a civil ceremony on December 27, 2018 in Chicago.

A few days before they tied the knot, Chance said he first met Corley Bennett at his mother’s office party in 2003 when he was nine years old.

“We have been instructed to make room for an exclusive appearance by DESTINY’s CHILD!!” Chance remembered on X a lip-sync performance with Corley. “Now I look into the eyes of the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my almost ten years of life on earth.”
