Deane Leonard has become the forgotten man in the Chargers cornerback room.

After a strong preseason, the Canadian landed on injured reserve midway through the regular season and watched from the sidelines as rookies Cam Hart and Tarheeb Still made waves as hits from Joe Hortiz’s first draft class.

But on Wild Card Weekend, Leonard reminded people why many were so excited about his preseason looks.

Leonard entered the game from outside on third-and-7 for Kristian Fulton and was compared to Texas receiver John Metchie. Metchie ran a go route, but quarterback CJ Stroud appeared to either throw the ball away or expect Metchie to get back to the ball.

Either way, Stroud’s pass flew to the sideline, and Leonard was the only one in position to make a play. He stood up to win the ball and tapped both feet into the field to intercept the ball.

It was the Texans’ second turnover of the day after Alohi Gilman Metchie forced a fumble in the first quarter. Justin Herbert threw an interception to Texans cornerback Kamari Lassiter after Leonard’s pick.

The Chargers lead 6-0 in the second quarter.
