Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert “should be OK” after suffering a bruised leg

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a bruised left leg in Sunday’s 19-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Herbert said he doesn’t expect the injury to affect him in the future.

Late in the second quarter, Herbert dove for a throw and was hit in mid-air by Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton. Bolton’s elbow collided with Herbert’s lower left leg, and Herbert lay on the floor with the trainers in agony for several moments before finally limping to the sideline. Herbert missed the Chargers’ next play, but returned and finished the game with no apparent limitations.

Herbert said he expected to do well in the future, but suffered a poor performance after the game.

“I should be fine,” he said, then continued, “I did an injection there and had some pain, but it felt good and I went back in.”

“As tough as they may be, Warriors,” Harbaugh said of Herbert.

Herbert finished the game with 21 of 30 yards and a touchdown. He is now 2-8 in his career against the Chiefs, and the Chargers (8-5) have lost seven straight games to Kansas City. They play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday.

“It’s always a difficult game,” said Herbert. “In the end it didn’t work out the way we wanted, but I give the guys a lot of credit for hanging in there and fighting and doing everything we could in all four quarters.”
