Chargers RB will play in Week 17

The Los Angeles Chargers are bringing back one of their great playmakers in Week 17.

Los Angeles announced Friday afternoon that it has activated running back JK Dobbins from injured reserve. He is expected to play in the Chargers’ game against the New England Patriots on Saturday afternoon.

Dobbins had missed the Chargers’ last four games after suffering a knee sprain in his team’s Week 12 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Now, with Los Angeles needing a win to secure a playoff spot, the team’s leading touchdown scorer will return with a chance to push the Chargers into the postseason.

Dobbins’ return comes at the perfect time for the AFC wild-card contenders, who announced Thursday that they are ruling out running back Gus Edwards for Saturday’s game.

What happened to JK Dobbins?

Dobbins suffered an MCL sprain in the first half of the Chargers’ Week 12 game against the Ravens. He did not return in the second half and Los Angeles ultimately placed the running back on injured reserve ahead of their Week 13 clash with the Atlanta Falcons.

As a result, Dobbins would have to miss at least four games.

JK Dobbins injury updates

On Friday afternoon, the Chargers named the 26-year-old running back returning from IR.

The team also announced that Dobbins will be ready to play in the team’s Week 17 game against the Patriots on Saturday. It remains to be seen how much Los Angeles will rely on its leading touchdown scorer.

Of note, the Ohio State product was a limited participant in practice in Los Angeles on Tuesday and Wednesday, but was listed as a full participant on Thursday, the team’s final practice of the week. The Chargers initially gave him a “questionable” designation before announcing Friday that he would be returning from IR.
