Chargers-Texans final score, highlights and summary

Chargers-Texans final score, highlights and summary

Kickoff between the Chargers and Texans is just around the corner.

Both teams each employ a young quarterback with exceptional talent. Justin Herbert is aiming for the first postseason of his career, while CJ Stroud is looking to build on his early playoff success after winning in Cleveland a season ago.

Jim Harbaugh also wants to continue his winning streak and win at least one playoff game every time he reaches the postseason. From 2011 to 2013, Harbaugh won at least one playoff game before failing to make the postseason in his final season (2014) with the Niners.

So if there’s one thing on the Chargers’ side heading into this game, it’s history, and history says that Harbaugh should lead this team to victory.

Will that be the case today? There’s only one way to find out: lock yourself up and watch.

Here we go, Chargers fans. Playoff football! Stop it, baby!

A full quarterly recap of today’s game can be found below.

First quarter

The Texans won the coin toss and elected to defer. The Chargers offense was first.

Justin Herbert and the offense marched down the field with relative ease thanks to some chunk running from JK Dobbins and an efficient intermediate passing attack. The Chargers eventually got a third-and-1 at the Houston 14-yard line, but rookie right tackle Joe Alt was tackled at the point of attack, erasing the running path for Dobbins. The game ended in a two-yard loss, forcing Cameron Dicker to make a 35-yard kick that was successful. The Bolts led 3-0 with just under 10 minutes to go.

On the first play of the Texans’ ensuing drive, wide receiver John Metchie was stripped by Alohi Gilman and the football was recovered by Derwin James at the Houston 33-yard line. Suddenly the Bolts were back in business in enemy territory.

Gus Edwards started the drive with an eight-yard punt, followed by another short run to convert the first down. On the next play, left guard Zion Johnson missed his assignment on the play-action pass, allowing Will Anderson Jr. to sack Herbert for a loss of nine yards. The Chargers couldn’t overcome the deficit on the second-and-19 and Dicker was good again from 39 yards to extend their lead to 6-0.

The Chargers’ defense continued its strong start by forcing the Texans into a three-pointer on their second drive of the game. When linebacker Daiyan Henley failed to complete Metchie on third down, he nearly intercepted the pass after Joey Bosa forced Stroud to scramble out of the pocket.

Thanks to a Texas player hitting Derius Davis on a punt, the Chargers gained an additional 15 yards, moving them from the 12 to the 27 yard line.

The offensive line struggled to protect Herbert on their next drive, while the Houston defensive line continued to use stunts to create light pressure. Los Angeles would be forced for the first time. Although a Texans defender got hold of the ball, the punt continued to roll to the Texans 28-yard line after a short bounce.

Stroud got the ball moving with short forays past Dalton Schultz and Robert Woods. Joey Bosa sacked Stroud on second-and-10 before tackling Joe Mixon on third-and-15 just before the first down.
